Manavihare Fiaindratovo (Mimy) was born in 1975 in Manambaro Sud, a small town in southern Madagascar. His father was a French teacher who played trumpet with the local marching band and his mother was a nurse at the local hospital, who also sang in the choir.

A percussionist since the age of 15, Mimy learned to play music by joining several Malagasy bands, playing both traditional and modern Malagasy music. In Madagascar, Mimy played with Tsimihole, Senge, Sairy, Vilon'androy, Ninie Donia, Tata Rahely, Malaza Fahazavana Choir, Full Vao Band, Max Exeption and many others.

Since moving to the US in 1998, Mimy has performed with a varied group of artists, including: trumpeter Tiger Okoshi; dancer Keith Goodman; conductor Joan Szymko; the Aurora Chorus; Boka Marimba; Boston Landmarks Orchestra; Mohamed Camara and Koliba Jazz; Boston's Soul City Band; composer Osvaldo Golijov; Berklee Yo Team productions; Sway Mambo productions; percussionist Ernesto Diaz and the Evan Gutierez Latin project.

Mimy earned his bachelor's degree in performance from Berklee College of Music in 2003 and was awarded the Roy Haines Award from the Zildjian Company that year. He was also a recipient of the World Tour Scholarship from Berklee College of Music for four years.

Mimy is currently composing and arranging for FIKIRA, his seven-piece Afro-Jazz band, influenced by traditional Malagasy music, jazz harmonies and the diverse musical backgrounds of the band members. With support from Berklee College of Music, Mimy and FIKIRA recorded their first album in January 2006. The album features Mimy's original compositions, along with pieces by Puerto Rican pianist Uziel Colon
